Emerge 2025 Pantastic Top 10

Panning is the technique of following the motion of something as it moves from side to side across the scene in front of you. Using a super fast shutter speed will freeze the motion sharply, but can mean the image lacks interest.

Using a slower shutter speed when panning gives you the unique ability to be able to combine frozen motion, with blurred motion, in one shot.

For this challenge, we wanted to see images created using this technique and, wherever possible, to introduce some motion blur to the images.

We had an incredible set of submissions again for this challenge. We know it's not an easy one, in fact, we think it's probably the most difficult of all the challenges!

So without further ado, here are our top 10 Pantastic images, congratulations to the photographers!

We provide video feedback on all images submitted for the challenge, and from there, we select our Top 20 and Top 10. Without further ado, here are the Top 10 images for this challenge!

Angela Schneider | Big White Dog Photography

This is a fascinating image to explore and enjoy all the texture. The dog is almost camouflaged in all the texture. This really suits the form of the dog and adds some exciting narrative to go along with a well executed panning technique.

There's some lovely blur in this image and it has a lovely feeling. The dog looking slightly away from the camera towards the birds adds a little bit of narrative.

Clarice Olayvar | R Olayvar Photography

This is a really energetic image with some lovely movement, great timing capturing the dogs stride full stretched. The attention to colour detail is great too.

Connie Passejna

This is a submission that takes Pantastic to the extreme! The slow shutter speed has resulted in a burst of energy and also an ethereal space for the dog to jump into.

Kaori Stewart | Kaori Stewart Photography

This Pantastic image has an excellent amount of motion blur that is quite abstract. Retaining a sharp face allows the viewer to connect with the subject.

Liz Dranow | TimePunk Pet Photography

This wound up moment of anticipation before the burst of energy makes this an exciting image. The dogs sharp focus on the frisbee and the panning technique are well formed making this a fantastic image.

Polona Železnikar

The light airy nature of this along with the black and white treatment give this a gorgeous dreamlike quality. The dog is perfectly suited for this challenges technique, the sharpness and blur throughout the fur add to the dreamy feeling.

Rachel McCready | Furtographer

The tonality of this is really lovely, the moment captured is excellent and the sharp vs blurry areas of the dog is very well captured.

Tehya Hunter | Collie Tales Pet Photography

There's a gorgeous layering of colour and light here, the warm, cool, warm of the sky, mountains and dog is wonderful. The Pantastic brief fully realised with some areas of motion blur giving the feeling of speed.

Yvonne Jansen | BlissfulTails

The motion and energy in this image are excellent. The slow shutter speed used has given the surface of the water a brushed metal look and the splashes seem to explode from the dog.
