Emerge 2025 Mirror Image Top 10

Capturing an image with a full reflection is so much fun to do. You can use a mirror image in so many ways that enhance an image and add a little touch of magic to them. They can add symmetry and balance to a composition and they can even be used to trick our eyes. Whether reflections are a sharp mirror image of their real life counterpart or a softer, ethereal representation that loosely resembles the shape and colour, reflections rock!

For the Mirror Image challenge, we asked out Emerge challengers to go out and shot reflections and WOW, did we see some incredible submissions.

Here, in no particular order are our top 10 images from this challenge. Well done to the photographers who created this beautiful work.

We provide video feedback on all images submitted for the challenge, and from there, we select our Top 20 and Top 10. Without further ado, here are the Top 10 images for this challenge!

Abi Bradbury | Abi B Photography

This diagonal mirror is so graphic, and having the sharpness in the reflection, which is where we connect with the dog because the eyes are visible is a great choice. An excellent creative take on this challenge brief.

Carol Mudra | Apawture Studios

This is like those crazy hall of mirrors! The distortion of this dog's reflection is only enhanced further by the warping of body shapes, it's fun and really clever.

Jill Blathwayt

It feels like you're in the water swimming with this dog, the shooting angle is so low, the viewer is so immersed in the image. The reflection is fantastic and adds a graphic quality to the image.

Jo Lyons | Jo Lyons Photography

There are so many wonderful lines to guide you through this composition and it takes a second to realise what is happening in the reflections! Lovely light, colour and composition. The little splashes from the dog's paw add even more to the story.

Kaori Stewart | Kaori Stewart Photography

The strong statuesque pose and the soft movement of the water and gradient of colour from warm to cool really stand out in this image, and the reflection is suitably dark to really enhance the mood present.

Polona Železnikar

The dog looking down to it's reflection here is really wonderful and gives the image a contemplative feeling. The reflection is excellent and the bokeh in the water adds a little touch of magic to enjoy.

Rachel McCready | Furtographer

The expression of the subject here is just so engaging, lovely stuff! The reflection is soft and leads you to the subject and the subject is nicely framed by the trees.

Samantha Brown | Samantha Brown Photography

A lovely mirror image of this dog waiting patiently in the car, great pose and expression and the non-reflected dog in the foreground adds a nice depth to this image.

Szekelyi Beatrix | Beatrix7607

Great leading lines take you to the dog and reflection in this image. The inky black and white treatment works really well and the little splashes give a nice sense of movement too.

Tehya Hunter | Collie Tales Pet Photography

What a fun image! The light, airy feel resonates with the posing of the subject and the secondary dog in the distance, watching on, adds a wonderful humour. The reflection is excellent and almost takes the shape of a butterfly.
