Embark 2025 Soul Searcher Top 10

We're half way through Embark already, can you believe it! So for this challenge it's time to do a little soul searching.

This style of shot can be a great way to introduce variety into a session, especially if you usually shoot from a very low angle. The high angle and the expression, are sure to tug at the heartstrings, and people really relate to this view of their dog.

They see it every day when they look down at them. These images can feature just the dog's face filling the frame, or they can be framed wider to include more of the body.

This shot really plays on the whole "eyes are the windows to the soul" saying with the eyes being big, bright, and sharp, and a shallow depth of field turning everything else into soft blur.

So without further ado we give you the fantastic images that made it into the top 10 of the Soul Searcher challenge.

Well done to all the photographers.

We provide video feedback on all images submitted for the challenge, and from there, we select our Top 20 and Top 10. Without further ado, here are the Top 10 images for this challenge!

Ave Paasuke | Coastal Tails

Wide angle lenses and double the dogs is not something we've really seen in this challenge before. It's so well captured, there's a lovely subtle frame of foliage and it is just so engaging that you can't help but smile.

Camilla Johannessen | Hundefoto.nu

The off centre composition is quite unexpected, but works so well both graphically and as the tail leads the eye into the image. The colour harmony and texture are fabulous.

Diane Schlichting | Little Bear Photography

This is like a frolic in springtime in an image! It's so joyful, the little flowers, the light catching the grass and of course the happy expression of the subject.

Jennifer Menard | Jennifer Lynn Photography

"Are you ready for an adventure?" The diagonal lines of this head tilt against the wooden slats in the stairs really makes the dog stand out.

Jordyn Bobo | Golden Atlas Photography

What a great piece of storytelling, it's time for a walk! Lovely even light, sharp eyes, and a centred balanced composition.

Kristy Wallis | Borderfame photography

We spy a sock thief! The diagonal floor lines add a lovely flow through the image, the texture and sharpness in the dog is great and who doesn't love that face!

Lina Hoggren | Liljeros Design

What great colour harmony, the background picking up the dogs eyes. The expression is gorgeous and the feeling of connection with the viewer is palpable.

Marquee Maylum | Marquee Photography & Design

What a fantastic story, that drool and empty bowl take this to another level. It's a little less soul searching and a little more "please can I have some more"!

Melissa Rodewald | Melissa Rodewald Photography

The pine framing and the steely metallic look of this dog give the image a seasonal feeling. It's technically excellent too, sharp, shiny eyes and perfect focus.

Roxanne Gura | The Whimsical Leash

What a feast for the eyes! Theres so much to look at in this image, the flora is wonderful, but the clear focus is the dog, who is lit beautifully and had such bright shiny eyes to command our attention.
