Embark 2025 Front Runner Top 10
Sep 04, 2025
Featuring flying ears, long flapping tongues, and crazy eyes, these shots are hilarious and always front runners with dog lovers. A must to include in any clients image gallery!
Capturing animals in action would have to be one of the most demanding types of photography. They move erratically, they're relatively small, and they're different colours, shapes and sizes. And that's before you even consider the extra challenges you have in directing and influencing their movement. Once you have the know-how though it's all down to practice. And for these shots, you won't get many complaints about that from your doggy subjects.
So stepping up the difficulty level as we tackle challenge number 8 of Embark is precisely what our challengers need. We absolutely loved providing feedback on some really fantastic submissions for this challenge. But here, in no particular order, we're sharing our top 10 images, along with a few thoughts on why we loved them.

We provide video feedback on all images submitted for the challenge, and from there, we select our Top 20 and Top 10. Without further ado, here are the Top 10 images for this challenge!
Camilla Johannessen | Hundefoto.nu
The low angle really draws you to the subject and their fantastic expression.
Erica Harvey | Erica Lane Photography
The dogs face is so sharp and textured here that you can't help be drawn to it. The low angle is excellent and the point in the stride is well timed.
Katie Romig | Katie Romig Photography
Ready for take-off! Those ears are magnificent, the moment so sharp and well timed, a great example of the Front Runner action image this challenge brief called for.
Lina Hoggren | Liljeros Design
What a fantastic moment, the location and pastel tones suite the subject beautifully.
Linda Van Oeffelen-Brosens | Jinterwas photography
Spring in in full swing in the background, giving this image a lovely light and airy feeling, the super low angle and sharp textured subject hold the viewer attention in this excellent Front Runner image.
Nikki Jennifer | Nikki Jennifer Photography
There's a lovely feeling to this image, the muted tones, overcast evening light and the textures and patterns are all wonderful. The path is a nice leading line to the subject running forward.
Shelly Cavallaro | Wherever the Nose Goes
Such a simple image, but so well executed. The subject in in a great part of the stride and the focus is precise. The muted palette really suits the soft light and mood.
Sherry Glassman | Sherry Glassman
There's a fantastic sense of movement through the windswept fur and the blue/orange palette is wonderfully complementary.
Stephanie Summers | Bluehound Photography
Crazy hound face alert! This is fun, bursting with action and the direct motion towards the camera perfectly captured.
Vera Faupel | @everythingpawssible
There's a great sense of humour in this moment that really captivates the viewer. The dark green tones help the subject stand out and take centre stage.
